I've thrown together some automated arena code so that arenas will now automatically take place at 10 AM and 10 PM EST. Additionally, they will run at 3 AM on Saturday morning and hopefully (although I have yet to witness this) randomly about every 8 hours.

There are a lot of different combinations of things we could do with these automated arenas and I tend to utilize this feature further, but I'd love to hear your ideas on the subject matter. :)

Currently, we have the ability to run automated "sets" (different levels/cost/prize/etc) of arenas at any specific hour of the day on a daily or weekday basis. (So for example we could have 1 set of arenas run Tuesdays at 3 AM and 3 PM and another set that runs every day at noon and midnight.)

Because arenas heal we'll need to carefully balance the cost/healing/frequency to fun ratio.

Best regards to all,

Ok, kind of wierd to reply to my own message but I just thought of something I'm seriously entertaining and it is a good example of the type of thing I'm looking for (within reason of course!):

How fun would it be to run an arena for a constitution flask every Saturday night at midnight?

Well to comment on con. flask every saturday.
I can tell you that that would be one packed
arena. Every person and their horse would be
in there.
I agree with you, things needs to be carefully
thought trough to make sure there's no imbalance
to fun/heal/cost ratio like you said above.
Perhaps, you could run a level flask arena instead
of con. one every third/forth week to give it some
variance. :D

I'll see the rest of you there.

These types of arena rocks ! thank you .
i think though that a random 8 hours wouldn't help people with strange connecting times (waiting for mom to sleep, or just before class), i'd suggest to put it at 11 hours or 7 hours, or mebbe at randomly 7 or 11 hours after each ran auto arena, this will help cover all the hours.

Planned Con or level arena ? i honestly do not like this , despite what everyone else says, this will be like teaming arenas for sure, i'd suggest running "surprise arena" when number of connected people are over a certain number, and where the surprise can be randomly a con flask, a level flask, an fs flask , ans somtheing along these line (any flask perhaps :P) ,with planned known-when-and-what-you-get arenas and with my 2 con left main char i would be doing some craziness, so i think better not.

Auto-mobs ... as far as i seen they are linked to whom in, that's fair ! i'm only hoping their level gets tweaked a bit, i hardly see a level 100 monk beating a level 100 mage by all means, so mebbe going randomly down to 70% of the avg players levels and up to max levels would be rather interesting to have.

Random autofull heal wouldn't be bad as well (very rare i guess).

Last, adding a so called "wild crazy" arena where everyone is forced in woudln't be a bad idea, like once in month, when none is actually fighting.

Now regarding the arena field itself, i know this can be seen out of the topic , but why not add some water room (plenty plenty !), automove rooms, damage rooms, different shades rooms (some totally dark Rahahahaha)

Well what akrond said is true.
If time of con. flask arena was
know it would probably end up in
teams vs single players or ganging
up of some sort which most people
would feel is unfair.

Totally random arena when there's enough
players online is a really good idea.

I am sure you've heard it before, but it
would really be cool if there could be
group vs. group arena. Maybe even have people
bet money on which group will win, who dies
first, who will kill the most players etc etc.

That could kind of drain players money if you
make it hard to predict but when you win, you
win big... could get people addicted to gambling. ^.^

I'm seeing with these arenas is that the gain pot is fixed.
I explain :
The winner will receive 600 gold coins.
This arena was sponsored by: DL Auto-Arena

. . Arrives from above.

This will usually tell one several things. Either you ventured
into limbo, were the victom of an arena, or the victor of an arena.
I had to be reminded of the fact, they arn't everything.
However, they are the uptmost thrill and excitement as your
fingers glaze the keyboard in attempts and hope to kill
every son of a charlie-horse in your way.
Short and sweet. I enjoy/love killing you all,
whether or not I can accomplish the feat.
Lets not forget that wee-hour auto arena; even when none of
were present for attendance, it was a blast to enter.
Most times that hour a NPC never joined.
I suffered a real blow out with just NPCs too, I like winning.
Knowing the certainty of that, flipping dolphin-a awesome.
But yeah, I'd rather kill a couple of you living typers
than the machine, that's why the arena was assembled.

I regret the fact the arena isn't as mature as I'd
like it to be. I havn't found John Doe splat becaue
he stood somewheres at the wrong time. Nor Have I
traveled tiers upwards or down. The floors never
instantly rose with water, causing me to drown or
venture to the higher regions. Yeah these
schemes would take too much construction, and for
That all the bugs can come out of the woodwork
for an apple.
You know the first night that happened I won
all three apples. Remember how some of us
didn't want to eat them, and how others were
willing to eat them for others. Yeah that
was the first food fight I've witnessed with you.
My con apple went to Kyo, I thought the bastard
after all his hard work, and flask situation,
desserved it after Strolem's friendly compassion
for kyo's life.
Weeks later, I'm boomed the apples were abused,
arenas were stripped. As to why, I really don't care.
Without that appple, arenas for most of you,
we're another mere part and piece of the game.
To some of us imbued with greed, we wanted to
win every arena that met our screens. Yeah, for
a few weeks, battling the same ones of you vermin
is a challenge, I admit that, and fun. But why
should we be the only reaping the rewards?
Given I could find an arena 2 times a day.
Sometime for money, sometimes not.
Coinage, cool. But figure this.
Same **** enters arena every night,
even those off ones when someone
new comes in. Cool, you's got to
to be the "one".
Accuse me guilty of this action, I've probably done it.
Anyways though.
Once again, this place that gives you so many troubles and
thoughts to dewll upon daily. You know that guy who assembled
it piece by piece all the while we've been growing wiser.
Look, he made a really nice tool, yeah you've learned
it's benifits in it's highest production ratio that'll
probably ever be known to dl history.
Could you have too much of a good thing at once?
more importantly, why would someone do such a thing?
Theres all sorts of obvious one particular to a generous being.
It was kinda mentioned though, to increase the player base.
I suppose thats an action asked that really never completes itself.
Yet, in this crap bundling of words, lies that equation.
If he is busy working on things, and enjoying his creations,
yet still wants more pc's amongst the lands. Who is gonna
do it, and how should it be done.
When your on, I know you vote, when newbies come
and you can you assist them. When they ask for
something you usually do.
You guys are great.
but there is a couple of you that can dig deep.
how much can one mortal really do, I mean
we're just the players right?

About arenas in final though. Thanks that was sweet. I don't plan on seeing a
weekly con arena just to boost the player base. You just log on, enter, gossip,
and rent. Most occassions it's nice to see you pop in, but most of you are at
that point we're your fed up on how things are, and just gonna sit it out.
Yeah you make me reall proud.
Thanks bud.
Maybe since all my mumbo-jumbo can't be really accomplished the con flask
arena, for those who really are driven to stay alive. Work is manual,
a soul entity is eternal.
I suggest making the prizes on auto arena such as the
valuable apples, random. to maybe once a week.
'have auto arenas for prizes that vanish on renting
with the affects, of eddible (for one time use)
for all the barrier spells, and full heal.
If they were as complicated as portals, low levels would be
left in some sticky situations perhaps.
And having food items that give some of the premier class
spells allows victors to experience DL possibilites, by
either using prize to win second wave arenas, or challenge
Mobiles one usually couldn't.
Make these arenas frequent to like 2 times a week,
where every arena has some novilty.
The rest, gold did just fine, even the arena win Suffices.
Thos win ideas were just for those driven by insentive and prizes.

This rant ends now.

What about arenas for information? Or arenas with an RP incentive?

For information:

This could be anything. It could be a map to a rarely traveled zone. It could be the name of a mob who drops an extremely rare weapon, one that would benefit the player who won the arena? Just winning money, experience, items, loot, and treasures are great incentives already, but lets throw some more in there.

RP incentive:

What if a GM creates an arena in the persona of a God, like Argenron, and all followers of Argenron are immediately made to enter it. They must fight amongst themselves to prove who is supreme in battle, and each can be awarded or punished accordingly. As a twist, any and all other players can join this same arena under the pretense that it is RP involved, and if they come out the victor they know that all those followers of Argenron who failed will be punished, and they may win something special in return. (Of course, it's harder for them because they're essentially putting a target on their back) but it also separates the men from the boys and can create some great rivalries that can extend into the real environment. I know if I were disgraced by some "lover not a fighter" pretty boy paladin, I would remember in the future and ultimately plot his doom Pinky and the Brain style. Just an idea.

AUto arenas, and arena are a great way to get everyone together, I know a while back that when people new arenas were coming up you saw an influx in people on-line that was great. I think the informational arenas would be great, maps, directions, even temp spell awards. Like a fire-shield for the winner, or something along this line. Even a temp award to help you level for a bit or possible get that bigger mob that you have been getting beat down by for awhile. Just something to think about....
