Alright first off.. I totally understand staff being busy in and out of DL. No problem with that at all.

With that said^ I was wondering if someone can place some more power upon the lower staffers? Like keys for houses and restrings? Heck, If no staffers wanna, I'm sure a player will do the ness. steps to create a staff for it. I've spoke with a few people who've been waiting for keys for houses for months and some who are trying to get some restrings with color (me being one). Yeah, it's not a big deal but, it's a part of the game that gives people something too do.

haha agreed! I definitely relate to this feedback, i mailed for a restring months and months and months ago, didnt receive a reply for months, tried again and got a response that it would be done within a week or two and i hadn't been forgotten... never received it, that was a long time ago :) i stopped asking, figured staffers were too busy for that stuff. Putting simple powers like restrings, keys, and so on would really make player life nicer :)

In the future, I do hope to further automate these processes (buying houses/keys/restrings) significantly. That said, they currently require significant staff effort to maintain. Key and house messages should get a response, you should mud mail Jeraiha. If she doesn't respond in a reasonable amount of time (keep in mind she generally has to see you on in the game so if you don't play much, she isn't likely to be able to discuss/fulfill your request easily/quickly), go ahead and mud mail me and I will request that she pay closer attention to her duties. Regarding restrings, we aren't currently doing restrings for players, sorry. Really, both are difficult to maintain because they are for individuals and very manual. Again though, I do have a few thoughts on how to make this better and I will be working towards that in the future. Thanks for the input.

Best regards,

Here's my feedback,

I think Nez should take a break from coding, and spend a month or so playing the game he's worked so hard to create! :)

Sucks too hear restrings are on hold. It seems everyone is too caught up in improving the mud for the future.
What about now? I've helped about 6 people (newbs) in the last 2 months. Only one is still here and she barely logs on anymore..the mud promotes rping. Nobody roleplays. Most of us are maxxed again in lvls.

We've had nothing else to do but lvl. It seems like there is always something else too improve on. Honestly.. I could play without all of this new stuff talked about coming in. This is going to turn into a endless cycle of "no quests, no rping for items, no restrings, no interacting with staff" because we're working on putting this new code in.

I say take a break. Kick back and let those staffers loose and play the mud with the players. Take a break from the future and live in the now.

Get on DL. Everyday people are afking camping mobs. Hack-n-slashing 24/7 because there's nothing too do.

The small things missing.. like personal quests, questing for eq, restrings, fun arena's with staff, wars in rp, fun rping with staff controlled mobs. These small things I think is what is hurting this mud.

Once this new code of whatever is put in. Another is waiting in line too be put in. A never ending cycle that's killing the player base.

I LOVE THE GAME RIGHT NOW. LET'S HAVE FUN AND PLAY IT!

I do not think you understand that which you propose.

Basically, you are telling me I should give up on about the last 3 years of work (literally thousands of hours) I've put into this game because I refuse to take the time to restring items for you because I would rather work on stuff that multiple people will get to enjoy. And oh by the way, you want to know the real problem? It is people with the attitude you are currently taking. They make Staff members think -- Why should I spend my time on this game when the players are so negative towards what I work on? THAT is why there is nobody to do restrings for you. Distant Lands is now capable of doing things we couldn't even begin to dream of in the past. Let's not give up on that because it has been a long time coming. I just looked and if we were to discard my latest project (macros) which I've been working feverishly on, we would take out nearly 20% of the code in the game. This is all code you haven't seen (or at least not really). And oh, by the way, in my opinion, this code is the best code in the game. It is going to have a dramatic impact at some point, I promise. This is a bit of an over statement/simplification, but macros will ultimately allow the builder to "program" his zones giving them more interaction and life. Everything from NPCs having responses to players and timed conversations with each other to talking items. You don't want to see it? You don't care about all of the creative energy spent on the game, you care about yourself. By the way, macros already have the ability to restring things... so that means we can do things like make macros that restring an item, NPC, or room on command, based upon time, or a whole host of other things. So if we keep going down this road... I think you are likely to have items that appear differently in different situations. There is no doubt we need to build our Staff back up. Telling them to abandon all their hard work or that their hard work doesn't matter is not the way to do it. I believe getting people excited about the game again is...

As I said, I do have some ideas on ways to improve the house/restring bottleneck and I will get around to it, you just have to be patient and use your head. If I stop what I'm working on and start playing the game a bunch, that won't get you a restring either. There are some coding solutions to these problems, and in fact, it may not be obvious but macros is one of them. Why? Because it has the ability to get people excited about the game again... and that is what will get us a more functional staff. Even when I make it so you can submit the actual restring you want (probably a year or two away), we'll need a staff member to 'hit the approve button'.

Best regards,

--Nezmar

I apologize if I hit a nerve. It's just that during the course of time I've spent here, I've never gotten much of a chance to experience playing the game with the staff (probably more my fault than anyone elses btw.). I like this game for the staff and players (whom are all creative, unique, and diverse people), and it saddens me that everyone seems to be getting on each others nerves. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the staffers, and the time you spend on\in\around this game probably makes it a full-time job. I just want to see people having a good time, staff and player alike. I hope we can see that during the upcoming DLDS, which I will make a serious effort to take part in.

I want not only to explore this creation, I'd like it's creators to show it off, and be proud of themselves. I care, and I wish I had the time and creative ability to do more than that.

Respectfully,
Dref
