While I was in class one day, I decided that I wanted to roll a character, maybe keep him if I took a fancy to him. I rolled, did some homework, rolled, did a little more homework, and finally found a set of stats that looked good. They became a paladin. An  evil  paladin. So I look at my skills, spells, and profs, and a couple of things jump out at me: two spells labeled "dispel evil" and "protection from evil". While I recognize that the traditional paladin will need these spells, mine, quite frankly, won't. What I think would be nice, if someone had the time, energy, etc. would be to possibly have something like an "Alignment Suite" of spells. Something like, if you're evil aligned, replacing those spells with "dispel good" and "protection from good" spells or something. Iunno what neutral characters would do. Maybe get option on either/or. I don't know too much about DL, not having the years of playing experience other have, but maybe clerics either have this system or could benefit from it as well?

Alternatively, the staff could just alter the paladin schema, making it so only good paladins could be rolled. But really, what's the fun in that?

EDIT: Looking at the list, bless could map pretty easily to curse, but I think there's already a curse spell, so Iunno if that'll work.

This has been talked about for years. Why would an evil paladin need proteciton from evil? Paladins are the representation of their god on the realm they should represent their God in the best possible way. This goes for clerics as well. Why would an evil cleric fighting for the furthering of their evil Lord or Lordess not have a spell to fight Good aligned folk. Hasn't ever made much sense to me either. Nezmar? Myrrimma? Comments. I'm officially volunteering to do the work on the builder side.

The full real answer to this is fairly long, so I'm going to go with an abbreviated version. In short, the code for spells in general needs lots of work and we hope to be able to accomplish things like this eventually. We agree it should be done, it is a matter of (probably a lot of) time. Don't get me wrong, we've been working on DL since 1994... someday, it is likely you'll see this (and MUCH, MUCH, MORE), you'll just have to be patient. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, it is always appreciated, it helps us to make sure we do build features such as these into future systems.

Best regards,
