Ok, I have a serious problem with whats going on in DL lately. We have absolutely no players ever online except for the select few thats always on bored out of their minds. Don't you think if there is more quests perhaps we'd get more players online? Its a fact that if you mention anything about a quest atleast 10 or more players will sign on...and if 10 or more players sign on i'd say thats quite a bit more votes, and we can DEFINITALLY use more votes. Everyone's been talking lately about how we have so many more builders??? so why not use those builders to help make some new quests instead of letting people sit out of quests because they have already completed the same quest in the past!
We have a really good player base we just need everyone to sign on at the same time! Even the auto arenas don't even work because we can't even get 10 people online at the same time.
I also have another problem with the new players that die just walking around making mistakes and end up losing a con point for things they have no idea about. I'd say its pretty unwelcoming, I've seen it happen to plenty of newbies. We need a new way of keeping new players attached. We are constantly losing players, we really need to do be doing something about this.

And also what about all the old players that are losing con points? its not very welcoming either when you keep losing con points every single death. no wonder everyon e has stopped showing up? I think we need a way of helping players get attached again like i said before? All the old players have seem to stopped playing? Does that mean anything to anyone? does anyone agree with me?

Mmm....I agree, I know that a lot is being brewed up, but I have noticed a lot of the old players have stopped playing. I don't find it too much of a problem losing con, but I have stopped playing one of my avatars on account of the con the character is sitting at. Maybe you could come up with some logical ideas, instead of asking for a change though?

I moved this topic from the Ideas folder to this one as I saw absolutely no idea in it at all.

We do realize there are problems. We (the small but loyal and hardworking staff that is left) work
hard at trying to get things done. Building is happening, and to me, adding new areas for current
players to explore will go a lot further then quests. We have enough quests, what we don't really have is the staff or enough quest ready players to run on all the quests. It takes the right combination of talent to succeed as a few recently have learned.

Yes, we do need suggestions of how to fix things as well, and by all means DO keep making them.

BUT

We truly know what's wrong. We know how to fix it too, for the most part. What we lack is people who will commit and do the work to make those fixes come to fruition. So all we can do is all we can do for now. Offers to do what NEEDS done will be accepted. (As opposed to the offers of people who only want to do what they think needs done and only that one little thing.)

Anyone willing to pitch in, commit and help do what needs done staff side?

Don't get me wrong, players are VITAL. Those who play are helping out TONS. We need you to continue to play, vote and get your friends to do the same. That in itself will lead to the ultimate resolution of most of the issues.

So all this does is rehash the same stuff. *shrug* I'm at a loss of what else to do. I do more then
my share. Perhaps we should check into the cloning process for Nezmar, myself and a few others. That could work...Hmmm... ;)

Also keep in mind, as with my case, a lot of us work longer hours in the summer months. Which means we get to spend less time playing/working on DL due to real life chaotic time schedules.

And, obviously, a lot of us have played this game a long, long time. Everyone needs to take a break at least once in a while.

But, to be perfectly honest, I think our biggest threat at the moment is the popularity of MMORPGs. These things have been sucking a lot of our long-term players, as many of us know.

Sure, we're free. That keeps a lot of us here. You don't need a supercomputer to run it. That helps, too. The players are simply awesome, and the code laid down by our fearless leader is simply amazing. But in my opinion, the muds that are doing the best right now are the ones that focus almost all of their code for RP. Because, let's face it... The people that just want to kill stuff for drops/loads have moved on to MMOs. The Roleplayers, on the other hand, have still (at least for the moment, and in higher volume than H&Sers) stuck around.

Which to me, means several things.

 We need to brain storm ideas to improve RP on DL.

 We need more staff members that can contribute to the game, and don't just lollygag around. (I'm guilty of this too!)

 Most importantly, we need more players. So start sticking up Bojie's flyers in your local game centers.

The players make the game, really. Without you, we don't have a leg to stand on. Without you, our ideas are pointless. Without you, our work is fruitless. Without you, this game doesn't exist.

Let's rock out with our socks out, and get this game not only back to the (active) player base we used to have, but moving towards the future of a bigger and better DL.

Sincerely,
Jorlain

I miss you all too, I miss not aiding nezmar in his finds, nor getting to say Morning to our lovely Myr. Most of all, I miss not being in a red RP flag with you guys. Be patient though. I'll come out of the closet again in a while.

Until then, keep up the awesome progress, you guys rock, and quite fidgiting with death, It consumes whomever it wants.

in one game i played the is no longer because of not enough funds for the servers was awesome if you didnt put a punctuation mark at the end of a sentence you got penalized 1 exp, if you talked ooc you got penalized or possibly banned depending on how much you did it, and when the creator actually cared about the game certain things would happen once a month where if you hand the gold in the game you could buy some of the rarest things possible. this game remind me so much of it but lacks the roleplaying that the other had. my suggestion is having the staff enforce role play put a little bit of codes enforcing some parts of the role play. a little more user friendly by more colors being involved in the descirptions of the room. with the classes and races i love them the other game just didnt have nothing compared to this when it comes to that factor, because here it seems more balanced, there it started where magic users where gods, then to balance it he nerfed them and made warriors just a force that could not be touched at all, any ways i am in the process of getting some of those players to come here, but they are die hard rp'ers and im scared that thy would turn away from the lack of it here.

oh and btw the other game i am refering to is Dragons Era, now that it is semming like the owner will not be able to pay for the servers and the game will not be back i dont think it is advertizing...
one bonus on it was f key short cuts that would save to the char, it made it a little easier...
ummm i think im done on the rp part... my last suggestion is for the owner since im new i dont know much of the staff or anyone, but to go to http://www.mpogd.com and put the game there so that more people will be able to find the game... i found it by accident, i went to download.com and downloaded fmud and it was there. but anyways for those not knowing what http://www.mpogd.com is it is a sort of like a search engine for games

Thank you for the input, we appreciate your thoughts. I have submitted Distant Lands to be added to the site you recommended. From a development and administrative standpoint, our main push is towards roleplaying. We are interesting in anything we can do that will make roleplaying work better in Distant Lands. In order to make Distant Lands a better roleplaying environment, we need more players who understand and enjoy roleplaying. We have gone to great lengths to setup an extensive roleplaying system that is capable of constantly growing and changing -- but this serves little purpose when nobody chooses to actually roleplay. The more active roleplayers, especially ones that ultimately become some type of staff member, the faster RP will grow on DL. Again, thank you for the constructive comments.

Best regards,

--Nezmar

Getting "approved" for RP should not be a significant barrier. Because you must be online to have your request reviewed, the more you play the more likely you are to get your request reviewed. The more RP players we have, the more RP staff we'll have and the faster we'll be able to get these reviews done. Thank you for your patience.

Best regards,

--Nezmar
