Hehe.

Having fun on the RP server so far havn't died, though did run into a minor issue.

Since we by default start with no god, and no staff to assign gods.

I kinda lost align and have been spending hours and hours killing evil mobs.

As of yet I am not good, still stuck at neutral RED.

Wondering if tithing items were given to anyone without a god to any god, and after you tithe so much you become a follower of that god.

Perhaps there was something that I missed, didn't try praying at an altar or anything before.

Overall warning to others, DONT LOSE ALIGN. Um I have hours and hours perhaps days and days of killing to get it back. -_-
Syl.

Hello, my name is Mandros and I'm a DL-aholic.

Much like Alysandir, I started playing when I was 13 and am now 23. I just revisited this board today and saw the news. After being immensely frustrated as a player by some of the people and events Nezmar described, I can only imagine the frustration felt by the father of DL. I have left a few times, but always returned and every time immediately became immersed in the vibrant, engaging and challenging world created by the staff and players. Sometimes my affection for this world manifested itself in an intense addiction that crept up on me and sinisterly swallowed months of my life. More recently, it's just been reassuring to log on and remind Raz/Efori of his terrible taste in Major League Baseball franchises.

I just wanted to post on the thread, even though it looks like there is some sort of DL still going, to say thanks for all your hard work. Whatever the future holds for this community, and that's definitely what it is, I think it's important for you to know that despite all the bitching, moaning, and other Nas-like noises over the years, we all owe you quite a bit and every single one of us recognizes that.

Someone once asked me to describe the game to them, and I had trouble at first, but eventually came up with this simple picture. It's an eloquently designed setting for people of similar taste but very diverse attitudes to find mental escape and practice human and literary interaction with the extreme and authentic personalities only found in the anonymity of the internet. Now that I look back on my DL experiences, I can definitely see that I got way more out of it than just hours racked up on any old game. I guess that's just my way of seconding Alysandir's comments about the irreplaceable nature of DL. There might be games like it, but I doubt I'll ever see one again.

Thanks to everyone who helped make DL what it was. I count many of you as some strange kind of friend.

Cheers,

Mandros

I'd like everyone to tell me their feelings and thoughts on this....everytime you enter DL, type B at the main screen and you get this....

Distant Lands is written almost entirely from scratch. It was started
due to several peoples' dislike to the immortals and stagnance of another
mud which we played. I took on the MASSIVE job (although I had no idea at
the time...) of head coder. I think we have come a long way, especially
considering we knew NO coding at all when we started this project.

This mud is developed for a dual purpose, coding has turned into a
passion of mine, and unlike some muds, we DO care about players and we
want you to have fun. Administration of a mud is a tough job, please
consider this if/when you complain. We will always try to be fair.
In addition, even though it is for fun, there must be some rules
(which I think can add to the fun). Please check these rules in the
game. They will be scattered appropriately (helpfiles, news, motd, etc..).

Nezmar

P.S. Soon this will have a very different background, hopefully.

Hi folks, I'm not really here to share my thoughts right now, neither am I here to state an awe redemption of appreciation or gratitude. Least of which express how much fun it was along the way, perhaps it'd be a waste to appologize for all those vain efforts I've put in to say I would help either and always ended up short handed.

I know my faults, and have exceeded those excuses.
For what it's worth though, I'm struggling still to get back here even if it doesn't exist. Hard to even find a computer to fill out taxes these days. I remember too much to want to share, but this is all I've really had to say.

I owe you a call Nezmar someday, or likewise you should do the same for a goodbye,
you've always been there for the past decade to help me out with so much more than anyone else.

Hope you find a sense of purpose wherever you put your efforts into and wherever you may roam.
May you see the gilded passion of your midas touch as we've all encountered.
I'm not gonna miss this place too much, because I'm gonna do my best to use all that it gave me as a productive outlet elsewhere just like you.

Nezmar/Tommy you've always been my super hero number one. Thanks for being a fantastic role model. Farewell mate and warmest regards as you've always said.

I suppose since there is a chance this place will not exist when I have another chance to return for the rest of you all from your little hearted bastard of a person,
I'll miss you all too. Each and everyone here was a good source of inspiration to be a better person just not a roleplayer or character.

You guys are all one in a million, even the bojie's that couldn't stop bitching, because it's when someone is at their worste that you realize you've got a smidgen of potention to progress a bit and perhaps in an effort acertain a possible semblance of becoming a sharper crayon.
that's all I guess.
See some of you down the road maybe.

Hey Everyone! :)

So here I am, again - I tried as long as I could to go on without DL, not think about DL, to erase DL from my life.. But we all see how far that got me.

I can't help but think about all the great times I shared on this incredible game with some of the nicest people on earth. I'd like to go ahead and thank everyone again for everything this game gave to me, how we all grew, how we all changed, how we all loved it. I miss you so much DL.. ;*(

Perhaps one day all our wishes will come true and the DL we all loved will come back again!

Warmest Regards,
--Kahal.

Dear Distant Lands,

I don't normally take the time to look at Facebook, because I generally just don't have the time, but after Amaessara and I got in touch with Baasha over Facebook and I heard that Grel had made a "Distant Lands Rally Point", I decided to go check it out and I have to say I found it disappointing (especially after such a lovely conversation with Baasha -- I sure miss you man). Mainly because of the people who were previously Staff and now seem to only want to criticize me and say they saw this coming. I just don't understand, I suppose that must mean I've earned the criticizisms one way or another.

Anyway, I hope life is treating you all well, I still think about you frequently.

Warmest regards,

--Nezmar

Tommy,

It's not personal. It was never personal. Anyone who has met or talked to you in some fashion (voice or text) for a length of time will tell you that you and Debi are absolutely wonderful people. Both of you have poured yourselves into DL and created what many have come to call home.

I can say with great certainty that all of us long for the days when there were at least 15-20 players on at any given time of the day. The days when it seemed DL would never stop growing. The days when we were in the top ten, top five, and even number one in the polls. I can say that all of us would love those days back.

And on the other side of the coin I believe I can speak for everyone when I say that we never thought of it as personal. We never thought of the reprimands for doing (or not doing) this or that as personal. Some if not all of us may have given knee-jerk reactions to decisions or actions but it wasn't taken personally.

There's a mutual bond that was created amongst all of us that will likely never fade or break unless we let it.

So I say again, don't take it personally because it never was meant to be that way.

--Craig

Wow! I like many others here never imagined I'd see the day where DL was actually no more. It just seemed bullet-proof.
Even though I stopped playing many moons ago, a piece of me feels empty now that it is all gone. I know Nez and I never
agreed on anything, and since it was your game your decision was final. I knew this but I always argued my point and hoped
you would at least understand/consider it. I guess some saw it as bitching (thanks Gooey <3 you crazy ninja), I didn't.

Anyway, in closing, I'd like to thank all the admins, builders and Nez for the great game and times I've had while playing.
I'd like to thank Mirella for introducing me to this game and then both her and Lucia for helping me learn the basics, and
spoiling me with items and a bag of holding that I lost after my very first death. I am going to miss all the people that helped
me along the way with items, portals, sancs, countless imp str requests, full heals etc.
Nez, I hope you reopen DL again one day! Till then, all the best to everyone,

<3 Bojie, the little Illusionist

Vulsin,

I don't take it personally (at least not most of it). As I said, I was disappointed by comments made by a few specific individuals. Just because I'm disappointed by comments doesn't mean I took it personally, it means I'm disappointed by a few specific individuals. That's all. No need to read more into it than that.

Best regards,

--Nezmar
