I can't take it any more. It has been a long journey and I've tried over and over to revive it but it would seem the world is full of 3 kinds of people:

1) Those who constantly complain and cause problems.
2) Those that promise to help but don't (for whatever reason, many of which make total sense).
3) Those that have no interest in DL because they've been frustrated by the previous 2 types.

I used to think there was another kind (and I was one of those), but I'm just done with it all. I have so many better things to put my energy and resources into it isn't even funny. I'm not mad or upset about this, just tired and ready to move on.

Have a nice life,

--Nezmar

P.S. To be fair I just thought of another 4th type of person... Protius. Sorry to let you down man.
And a 5th type... the players who quietly enjoy the game. Sorry to let you down also.

Nezmar Honey,
I know I have not been active in DL for one of the reasons you listed, however, your decision to close DL makes me very very sad. I will not go into too much detail here other than to say.. i know how much time and energy you have put into DL and I am terribly sorry I have not been more supportive of DL in the past few years and for being a part of the reason you made this decision.
All My Love
Amaessara

It's certainly not your fault. I've simply come to the same conclusion you did long ago. DL wouldn't have been nearly as great as it was without you (and all the great contributors of the past). But now I think it is just time to move on.

I think everyone who's ever played DL has complained, caused problems, wanted to help, and quietly enjoyed the game. I myself have complained many, many times - but I still log on *EVERY* day to play a mud that I really, really love - and have loved for many, many years. I'm not exactly sure what happened, I was logged on during the shutdown, but I can't tell from my pov what happened or what went down. It's not hard to guess..

I know begging and pleading won't change your mind, Nezmar - but I'd like to thank you for your continued work on DL, and every staff member(as I usually do whenever I see anyone). There's a reason I log onto this mud every, *^~EVERY~^* day, and I guess at this point I'll be blunt about it, this is really unfair to those players that do enjoy the game.

I'm not going to play nice guy, yeah I've had issues I've complained about and perhaps caused a few problems, but I get over it and go on with it, it's a game - however when I get the chance during my day to click mushclient and connect to dl2.net port 23, it's something I'm going to miss dearly, sincerely Nezmar - I love this game.

Kahal, I'm sorry to let you down. I guess I just can't adequately express my level of frustration with DL any more so the closest thing I can come to it is to completely and totally give up on it. Why should I continue to spend money and spend my free time being frustrated so you can play DL? I've done it for many many years now and frankly as I said, I've got better things to do, better things to put my energy and resources into. I'm glad you enjoyed DL. It wasn't one thing or one issue, it just feels like time to let go... don't you think?

If that's how you feel, and there's no changing your mind, Nezmar - then I guess I'll figure it out. But if you want my honest opinoin, no I'm not ready to let go and stop playing DL. I've played this game since I was in elementary school, when my older brother and Soamonte (Kamaria, etc) would play it together at our house, until I got enough interest to start playing too. And you know what? I'm SO damn happy I decided to see what the hell they were so interested all those years ago, considering I'm still playing it to this day. I don't want to play other muds, I have played other muds, NOTHING compares to DL, the friends, the foes, the arguments, the laughs, the challenge, it's a love I have for your game; plain and simple.

Well I had a long shpiel on my cell phone that I tried to post but it produced an error so I got onto my friends computer to leave my thoughts. I can't begin to count how many times I have heard, "Are you winning," or "Have you beaten that game yet?," and I have always responded that there was no end. I didn't think about an end to tell you the truth, because I had never wanted one.

Firstly, I would like to thank you Nezmar and Amaessara. For the better part of my life I have made Distant Lands my home away from home. It was the perfect getaway to a rather inane life. Countless hours were spent sharing it with other people, be it talking to staff, grouping with friends, testing new things, building new things, having emote sessions, or anything along those terms. This game has changed me for the better.

Secondly, I would like to say that I feel like the world should have known about this amazing game, and the world should have played it. It was so genuine, and so unique. Things were produced that I couldn't imagine through coding! Ideally I would have loved to have introduced my children to this game, assuming I ever have children.

Lastly, I would like to apoligize for not contributing as much as I could have. For the past year and a half I have been without a computer/internet, and bluntly just struggling to keep my bearings. Just recently, with a bit of determination, I found out how to tether my cell phone to be able to play DL. I wish I had a computer so that I could have put forth some effort into keeping this game fresh and challenging.

If I never get to play with any of you again, I would like to say that I had the best times here at my second home Distant Lands. You will all be thoroughly missed. Please, keep in touch via facebook (ademaguy@hotmail.com), or even via text 413-977-2940, it would be sad to lose you all as friends.

Chris pretty much summed it up. All I can say is Ditto.

I'm never going to forget this line.

"Nezmar(1): Ok, we don't need this game any more then."

I'm going to hate myself for not being at the keyboard to talk to you during this time, Nezmar. I'm sorry.

This makes me very sad but I totally understand your reasoning. I do have one request that does seem very selfish and that is for you to open up your source code for future developers so that dl will never truly die out but live immortal in other realms. Join it's place with circle and diku as codes that completly changed gaming experiences for many generations.

R.I.p. DL you will forever be missed.

Heh, that comment was mostly an unrelated joke, hope that makes you feel better.

I didn't really discuss this with anyone, I just had an overwhelming feeling that it was the right thing to do. Life is too short to be worrying about a game that is more frustrating than fun.

At this time I don't anticipate releasing any of DL's core content for download due to potential licensing issues.

Thank you for all the positive comments and feelings towards DL.

Best regards,

--Nezmar
