I realize that a lot of people, myself included, use Gmail as their primary email provider. We have been getting literally hundreds of spam registrations, some of which actually get activated and post spam, from Gmail accounts. This is a temporary solution until a more permanent one is found. There's two ways I can think of going about this without having to resort to this kind of drastic action:

1) Implement a system such as reCAPTCHA that has so far been proven effective in stopping automated form submissions.

2) Appoint a select group of players/staff to be user registration moderators/screeners of sorts.

I've been trying to implement reCAPTCHA for the past day and a half now and have had no success at all. I've been running into roadblock after roadblock. Eventually I would like to get this implemented because it's proven to be EXTREMELY effective. However, like any other kind of technology like this, it will eventually be broken.
